This study is about exploring how digital storytelling can enhance nursing education. It focuses on nursing students, aiming to improve their understanding of the nursing process, which includes assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. These steps are crucial for providing evidence-based and holistic care. However, nursing students often struggle with assessment, prioritization, and individualization of care interventions. This study hopes to address these challenges by testing if digital storytelling can improve students' knowledge, competency, and clinical reasoning skills in the nursing process. Participants in this study will be split into two groups. One group will receive digital storytelling as part of their instruction, while the other group will receive traditional case-based teaching. Before and after the intervention, all participants will complete assessments. These include a Nursing Process Knowledge Test, a Nursing Process Competency Scale, a Clinical Reasoning Assessment Rubric, and Instructional Material Motivation Scales. There will also be follow-up evaluations immediately after the intervention and three months later. These assessments will help researchers understand if digital storytelling is more effective than traditional methods in teaching the nursing process.

Protocol

This section provides details of the study plan, including how the study is designed and what the study is measuring.
Design Details

104 patients to be enrolled

Total number of participants that the clinical trial aims to recruit.

Basic Science Study

Basic science studies help researchers understand how the body works or how a disease develops. They don't test treatments, but they build the foundation for future therapies.

Eligibility

Researchers look for people who fit a certain description, called eligibility criteria: person's general health condition or prior treatments.
Criteria

Any sex

Biological sex of participants that are eligible to enroll.

From 18 to 45 Years

Range of ages for which participants are eligible to join.

Healthy volunteers not allowed

If individuals who are healthy and do not have the condition being studied can participate.

Criteria

3 inclusion criteria required to participate
Students who voluntarily agree to participate in the study

Undergraduate nursing students enrolled in the Nursing Fundamentals I course for the first time

Students who attend and complete all educational activities related to the course

3 exclusion criteria prevent from participating
Graduates of a health vocational high school

Students who report prior knowledge or formal education related to the nursing process

Students who are currently employed in any healthcare institution

Treatment Groups
Study Objectives

One single intervention group is designated in this study

This study does not include a placebo group

Treatment Groups

Group I

Experimental
Participants in the intervention group will receive nursing process education supported by digital storytelling within the Nursing Fundamentals I course. A digital story developed by the research team will present a single clinical scenario illustrating the stages of the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Students will watch the digital story and participate in guided discussions to analyze the presented clinical situation and apply the nursing process in a structured manner. The digital storytelling approach is intended to promote reflective learning, contextual understanding of the patient situation, and the development of clinical reasoning skills. Assessments will be conducted before the intervention, immediately after the educational sessions, and three months later to evaluate nursing process knowledge, competency, and clinical reasoning outcomes.
