This study focuses on creating guidelines for safe skin care during pregnancy. Pregnancy can cause various changes in the skin due to hormonal, immunological, and metabolic shifts. These changes can lead to skin conditions like hyperpigmentation and striae. The study is important because many common skin care ingredients can cross the placental barrier, lack human safety data, or pose risks to the developing fetus. Currently, clinical guidance on this topic is inconsistent and often based on expert opinion rather than standardized consensus. This study aims to fill this gap by developing evidence-based, practical, and adaptable guidelines for safe skin care during pregnancy. The study uses a structured Delphi methodology, involving a panel of 25 experts from dermatology, maternal-fetal medicine, and clinical pharmacology. These experts have a minimum of 5 years of clinical experience and represent regions from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), Europe, and Asia. The Delphi process consists of three rounds. In the first round, experts provide open-ended responses on essential principles of safe skin care during pregnancy, ingredient safety classifications, preferred management of common skin conditions, and cultural and regional care considerations. In the second round, 75 draft statements are generated and rated on a 9-point Likert scale. Consensus is defined as 75% or more of experts rating a statement 7-9. In the third round, statements near consensus are revised for clarity and final voting is conducted to form the basis of the guidelines.
