This study focuses on understanding why some patients experience low calcium levels, known as hypocalcemia, after undergoing a surgery to remove the thyroid gland, called total thyroidectomy. The research aims to identify various factors that could predict this condition. These factors include the characteristics of the thyroid disease, levels of calcium and vitamin D before the surgery, how the parathyroid glands are handled during the operation, the patient’s age, and if the patient has hyperthyroidism. Recognizing these predictive factors is important because it can help doctors manage and prevent hypocalcemia more effectively after surgery. Participants in this study are observed to see which factors are present before and after their thyroid removal surgery. The research does not involve testing new drugs or treatments but instead focuses on collecting data about patients' conditions and surgical details. One of the main things being measured is the level of parathyroid hormone (iPTH) after the surgery, as a low level is a strong sign that hypocalcemia might develop. This information will help medical professionals better understand the risks and possibly improve patient care by anticipating and addressing low calcium levels earlier.
