Summary
Study start date: October 15, 2025
Actual date on which the first participant was enrolled. This study focuses on helping stroke patients who also have Type 2 diabetes manage their condition better. Stroke and diabetes are a challenging combination, as diabetes can increase the risk of having another stroke. Proper management of blood sugar levels (glycemic control) is crucial for these patients. The study investigates whether using WhatsApp, a popular messaging app, to provide education and counseling can improve healthy lifestyle habits, control blood sugar levels, and increase knowledge about diabetes management in these patients. By using WhatsApp, the study aims to offer an accessible and interactive way to support these patients in managing their health, potentially reducing the risk of future strokes. Participants in the study are adults with both ischemic stroke and Type 2 diabetes, who are already receiving insulin treatment. They will be divided into two groups: one group will receive the usual education about diabetes in the hospital, while the other group will get additional educational content through WhatsApp over four weeks. This includes weekly materials like booklets and videos about diabetes symptoms, complications, nutrition, and treatment. Participants can also ask questions via WhatsApp, providing continuous support. The study will measure changes in participants' knowledge, lifestyle behaviors, and blood sugar levels before and six months after the intervention, using various tests and scales to gather data. If successful, the approach could be a cost-effective way to enhance diabetes management in stroke patients using mobile technology.
