This study focuses on understanding the decisions transgender individuals in Italy make regarding fertility preservation before undergoing gender-affirming treatments that can affect reproductive capabilities. These treatments, such as hormone therapy or surgeries, might impact the ability to have biological children in the future. The study aims to discover why some choose to preserve fertility through methods like freezing eggs or sperm, while others do not, and to explore their feelings about these decisions afterward. This research is important as it seeks to improve the advice and support provided to transgender individuals, helping them make informed choices that align with their personal goals and improve their quality of life. Participants in the study will be transgender adults who will complete a detailed survey about their experiences and decisions regarding fertility preservation. This survey will ask about their transition history, reasons for preserving or not preserving fertility, the type of counseling they received, and any regrets they might have. It will also assess the challenges they faced, such as financial or emotional barriers. The study will use a specific scale to measure decision regret, aiming to identify what factors contribute to feelings of regret. By analyzing this information, the study hopes to identify ways to offer better support and counseling tailored to the needs of the transgender community.
