Study start date: August 1, 2025
Actual date on which the first participant was enrolled. This study focuses on understanding how diabetes affects the long-term survival of people with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), a condition where the blood pressure in the lungs' arteries is higher than normal. By collecting data from at least 5,000 patients across multiple centers, the study aims to compare the survival rates of those with PAH who also have diabetes against those who do not have diabetes. This research is important because it seeks to identify what factors might influence survival rates, potentially leading to better treatment strategies and improved patient care for those with both conditions. In this observational study, researchers will gather existing medical records of patients diagnosed with PAH to analyze survival times and identify any patterns or risk factors that might affect these outcomes. The primary outcome being measured is the overall survival, which is determined by the time from when a patient is diagnosed with PAH until their passing. Since this is a retrospective study, participants do not undergo any new treatments or interventions; instead, the study relies on previously collected data to draw conclusions. The findings could help highlight which specific factors, such as the presence of diabetes, may impact the long-term prognosis of patients with PAH.
