Study start date: May 16, 2025

Actual date on which the first participant was enrolled.

The study is exploring a special body position called the Trendelenburg position to see if it helps prevent low blood pressure (hypotension) in older patients undergoing abdominal surgery with general anesthesia. The Trendelenburg position involves tilting the body so that the head is lower than the feet. This research is important because low blood pressure during surgery can lead to complications, and finding simple ways to prevent it could improve safety for elderly patients. During the study, participants are placed either in a 10° Trendelenburg position or lying flat on their back (supine) when anesthesia is administered. Researchers measure the patients' mean arterial pressure, focusing on whether it drops below a certain level, specifically 65 mm Hg, within the first 15 minutes after anesthesia begins. This helps determine if the Trendelenburg position is effective in maintaining stable blood pressure during the early phase of anesthesia.

Design Details

168 patients to be enrolled

Total number of participants that the clinical trial aims to recruit.

Prevention Study

Prevention studies aim to stop a disease from developing. They often involve people at risk and test things like vaccines, lifestyle changes, or preventive medications.

Eligibility

Researchers look for people who fit a certain description, called eligibility criteria: person's general health condition or prior treatments.
