Summary
Study start date: February 1, 2025
Actual date on which the first participant was enrolled. This clinical trial is focused on evaluating the effects of Su Jok therapy on elderly individuals who are experiencing constipation. Constipation is a common issue among older adults, often exacerbated by factors such as low fiber diets, lack of movement, certain medications, and health conditions like irritable bowel syndrome or Parkinson's disease. This study is important because constipation can significantly reduce the quality of life, leading to discomfort, increased healthcare costs, and potential medical complications. Su Jok therapy, a method developed in South Korea, uses pressure points on the hands and feet to activate different parts of the body, similar to acupuncture or acupressure. The trial aims to assess if Su Jok therapy can improve constipation symptoms and enhance the quality of life for the elderly without the side effects associated with long-term medication use. Participants in the study will receive Su Jok therapy, which involves applying pressure to specific points on the hands and feet that correspond to different organs and body parts. The therapy is non-invasive and does not involve any medications, making it a potentially safer alternative for managing constipation symptoms. Researchers will monitor changes in constipation symptoms and overall quality of life to evaluate the effectiveness of the therapy. The study's findings could pave the way for wider adoption of Su Jok therapy in treating constipation without relying on pharmacological methods, which can have adverse effects over time.
