Myopia, or nearsightedness, is a common vision problem in Singapore, especially among children and young adults. By the time children reach the sixth grade, a significant number of them are already myopic. This condition can lead to more serious eye problems in adulthood, such as cataracts and glaucoma. This study aims to test whether special spectacle lenses can slow down the worsening of myopia in children aged 6 to 12 years. By addressing myopia progression early, the study hopes to reduce the risk of future eye disorders and improve visual comfort and performance. In this study, 185 children with mild or moderate myopia will be randomly assigned to two groups. One group will wear regular single vision lenses, while the other group will wear myopia control lenses. After one year, those in the regular lens group will switch to the myopia control lenses. This crossover design helps to evaluate the effectiveness of the lenses in controlling myopia progression. The study will monitor changes in vision over two years to see how well the lenses work in slowing down myopia. Participants will have their eyesight checked regularly to assess any improvements or changes in their vision.
