This study focuses on older adults aged 65 and over in Taiwan who have mild cognitive impairment and frailty. The goal is to explore whether specific exercises can help improve oral strength and control, which are crucial for safe swallowing and overall oral health. By targeting this group, the study aims to address common challenges faced by older adults, such as difficulty swallowing, which can lead to more severe health issues. This research is important because it could offer a simple, non-invasive way to enhance quality of life for elderly individuals. Participants are split into two groups, each with 23 members. One group performs tongue resistance exercises, while the other does cheek bulging exercises. These exercises are done over 12 weeks, with each session lasting 30 minutes. The study measures various aspects of oral performance using a device called the Iowa Oral Performance Instrument. It checks tongue strength, endurance, and swallowing pressure at different stages of the study: before starting, midway, immediately after, and some time after completing the exercises. All participants are informed about the study, including any risks, and agree to take part, ensuring ethical standards are maintained.
