Summary
Study start date: June 3, 2024
Actual date on which the first participant was enrolled. This study explores how a special type of exercise training might help older adults who suffer from long-term knee pain. The focus is on using a laser pointer to guide movements and improve how well the body senses joint positions. This kind of training could potentially reduce pain, improve mobility, and enhance the quality of life for elderly individuals. By understanding and enhancing the body's ability to sense movement, this research aims to provide better care and address challenges faced by those with chronic knee pain. Participants in the study are split into two groups. Both groups participate in a proprioceptive exercise program twice a week for six weeks. The experimental group also uses a laser pointer attached to the knee, which helps guide their movements while also engaging in simple mental tasks like counting. The exercises are done in stages, starting simple and becoming more challenging over time. Progress is measured through various tests, including assessments of joint position, range of motion, fear of movement, pain, quality of life, and mobility. The program is conducted by an experienced physiotherapist, ensuring that participants perform the exercises safely and effectively.
