Summary
Study start date: March 15, 2023
Actual date on which the first participant was enrolled. This study aims to evaluate a teaching method called SNAPPS within a Family Medicine Residency Program in Erbil. SNAPPS is a structured approach that helps medical residents present patient cases more effectively while encouraging them to express their clinical reasoning and uncertainties. This method is compared to traditional ways of case presentations, where students often focus just on facts rather than discussing their thought process. The goal is to see if SNAPPS can improve the way residents think through cases and manage their time better, ultimately enhancing their learning experience and the quality of patient care. In the study, medical residents will use SNAPPS during their routine case presentations. This involves summarizing patient histories and findings, narrowing down possible diagnoses, analyzing these options, discussing uncertainties with their preceptor, planning management, and selecting issues for further study. This process is intended to make the residents more engaged and thoughtful about their clinical decisions. The study will observe how well this method works in improving clinical reasoning and efficiency in an outpatient setting, without compromising the quality of patient care. The effectiveness of SNAPPS will be measured by comparing it to traditional methods of case presentation.
