Study start date: June 25, 2024

Actual date on which the first participant was enrolled.

This study focuses on improving the skills of individuals who use manual wheelchairs by providing remote training. It targets people who need to enhance their wheelchair handling abilities for better mobility and independence in daily life. The study is important as it aims to offer accessible training methods that can be done from home, which could help many individuals who face difficulties in attending in-person training sessions. By equipping wheelchair users with better skills, the study hopes to improve their overall quality of life and participation in meaningful activities. Participants in the study are divided into groups and engage in various training activities. Some will have one-on-one virtual meetings with coaches, while others will watch educational videos. Training sessions focus on practical skills like opening doors, navigating curbs, and transferring from the floor to the chair. Participants receive feedback on their progress, and they are encouraged to practice the skills. Throughout the study, participants complete questionnaires to track their progress and satisfaction. Safety is ensured by having spotters present during training, and follow-up assessments are conducted at regular intervals to evaluate the effectiveness of the training.

Design Details

132 patients to be enrolled

Total number of participants that the clinical trial aims to recruit.

Basic Science Study

Basic science studies help researchers understand how the body works or how a disease develops. They don't test treatments, but they build the foundation for future therapies.

Eligibility

Researchers look for people who fit a certain description, called eligibility criteria: person's general health condition or prior treatments.
