Summary
Study start date: September 21, 2022
Actual date on which the first participant was enrolled.Adolescents aged 10 to 16 years sometimes experience a condition known as Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS), which can cause spine deformities and impact their quality of life. This condition can lead to issues with breathing, chronic pain, and even affect a person's self-esteem and mental well-being. While traditional treatments involve rehabilitation and sometimes surgery, physical activities are known to help manage these symptoms. However, adolescents, especially girls who are more affected by AIS, often do not engage in enough physical activity due to various barriers like lack of access to facilities and low motivation. This study aims to explore if a tailored exercise program delivered through tele-rehabilitation can improve engagement and outcomes for these young individuals. The study involves adolescents with AIS being divided into two groups to follow a physical activity plan at home over twelve weeks. One group will participate in a High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) program, specifically designed and supervised remotely by a trained teacher through tele-rehabilitation. The other group will follow a similar HIIT program using exercise booklets at home. After the initial twelve weeks, both groups will continue with the exercise booklet routines for another twelve weeks. The study evaluates the effectiveness of these home-based exercise programs in improving the condition of adolescents with AIS, hoping that tele-rehabilitation can provide a more engaging and beneficial alternative to traditional methods.
