The Effect of 4-7-8 Breathing Exercise Training Given to Nursing Students on Sleep Quality: A Randomized-controlled Study
4-7-8 Breathing Exercise Training
Prevention Study
Summary
Study start date: December 4, 2023
Actual date on which the first participant was enrolled. This study focuses on understanding whether a specific breathing technique, called the 4-7-8 breathing exercise, can improve sleep quality among nursing students. The research takes place at Kilis 7 Aralik University in Turkey, involving nursing students who often face high stress and irregular sleep patterns due to their demanding schedules. The study aims to address these challenges by providing a simple, non-invasive method that could potentially enhance their sleep, which is crucial for their academic performance and overall well-being. Participants in this study will attend a 20-minute training session in an empty classroom, scheduled after their regular classes to avoid any disruption. During this session, they will learn how to perform the 4-7-8 breathing exercise. For the duration of the research, which lasts four weeks, participants are asked to practice this technique every night, half an hour before bedtime. The study will conclude once the four weeks are over, allowing researchers to evaluate the effects of the breathing exercise on sleep quality. There are no mentioned risks associated with the exercise, making it a safe intervention to test for potential benefits in improving sleep.
