GREATHIV Treatment Models Evaluation in Malawi
This study aims to observe how different HIV treatment models impact the enrollment of patients in Malawi by evaluating patient-months in various care models.
Data Collection
Collected from today forward - ProspectiveCohort
Tracking disease incidence in order to identify risk factors and understand disease progression over time.Summary
Study start date: December 1, 2019
Actual date on which the first participant was enrolled. This study focuses on understanding different ways to provide HIV treatment in Malawi, a country with a high prevalence of the disease. By examining existing medical records, the study aims to evaluate various models of service delivery for HIV treatment, known as Differentiated Service Delivery (DSD) models. These models are being tested to see how they cover and serve patients, the benefits they provide, and the costs involved. The study is important because it seeks to gather evidence on how these models affect patient outcomes like viral suppression, improve clinic efficiency, and reduce reliance on external funding, ultimately helping to guide future decisions on HIV care. Participants in the study will not be individuals directly, but rather existing data from medical records will be used. The study will not involve any direct interaction with patients, healthcare providers, or caregivers. Instead, researchers will analyze data collected by the Ministry of Health and other partners. They will look at how many patients are using these models, how the models are working in terms of patient outcomes, and how resources are utilized compared to traditional care. The primary focus is on how many months patients are enrolled in any DSD model, giving insights into the uptake and effectiveness of these models in providing antiretroviral therapy (ART) for HIV treatment.
