Summary
This study focuses on immunodepressed patients, or individuals with a weakened immune system, who have uncomplicated generalized lymphadenopathy, a condition characterized by swelling of lymph nodes in two or more areas of the body. The main goal is to investigate the effect of a drug called Isoprinosine in enhancing the immune response within a specific timeframe, including a 2-month period after the treatment ends. The potential outcomes of this study could lead to improved care for those with weakened immune systems, addressing the current challenge of managing conditions related to immunodeficiency. During this Phase III trial, participants are randomly assigned to receive either Isoprinosine or a placebo, a substance that has no therapeutic effect, for 28 days. The study measures the impact of Isoprinosine by evaluating various immunological parameters. These include monitoring the increase in natural killer (NK) cell activity, total T-cells (OKT-11), and the absolute number and percentage of T-helper cells (OKT-4). These cells play crucial roles in the immune system's response to infections and diseases.
