Summary
Study start date: February 1, 1992
Actual date on which the first participant was enrolled. This study focuses on helping individuals who struggle with drug use, specifically those using opioids. It aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a medication called buprenorphine, when combined with behavioral treatment and pro-social activities. The study also explores the impact of a reward system, where participants receive payments for engaging in these pro-social activities. Additionally, the study investigates the effectiveness of a blind naltrexone dosing strategy in encouraging naltrexone consumption, a medication that helps manage opioid dependence. Participants in this study will receive buprenorphine treatment and engage in behavioral therapy sessions. Some participants may also receive naltrexone under a blind dosing strategy, where they won't know whether they're receiving the medication or a placebo. The study measures several outcomes, including overall drug use, consumption of naltrexone, overall treatment success, participant retention in the study, and the number of weeks participants remain abstinent from drug use. The study also evaluates the duration of continuous abstinence.
