Obesity in children is becoming increasingly common, and it's more than just a cosmetic issue. It can lead to serious health problems like insulin resistance, high insulin levels, impaired glucose tolerance, and even diabetes. This study focuses on two groups: lean children with a family history of diabetes and obese children with a skin condition called acanthosis nigricans, with or without a family history of diabetes. The main goal is to understand how common impaired glucose tolerance, also known as carbohydrate intolerance, is in these groups.

Protocol

This section provides details of the study plan, including how the study is designed and what the study is measuring.

Defined Population

Researchers follow a specific group of people—such as residents of a region or members of an organization—over time. The goal is to track disease patterns and health outcomes in a defined setting.

Eligibility

Researchers look for people who fit a certain description, called eligibility criteria: person's general health condition or prior treatments.
