Study start date: July 21, 2026
Actual date on which the first participant was enrolled.Gallbladder benign disease is a common digestive system disease among adults in China, and its incidence is on the rise worldwide. Cholecystectomy has become the standard procedure for benign gallbladder disease since 1882 because of its strong curative effect and low recurrence rate. However, many complications or adverse reactions may occur after gallbladder loss, such as diarrhea and dyspepsia. With the improvement of people's requirements for quality of life and the penetration of the concept of "precision medicine","gallbladder-preserving lithotomy" has been carried out to a certain extent in clinical practice. However, most experts and scholars in hepatobiliary surgery oppose "gallbladder-preserving lithotomy", believing that there are problems such as high recurrence rate of gallstones after gallbladder-preserving surgery and irregular surgical methods. There has been considerable controversy over this procedure for a long time. However, there is no high-quality supporting evidence for and against it, and the current evidence is insufficient to deny the rationality of "gallbladder preservation" surgery. For the gallbladder preservation controversy, the existing evidence focuses on medical factors such as clinical treatment results and professional opinions, while a key non-medical factor-public/patient attitude-has been largely ignored. Therefore, we intend to understand the public/patient attitude towards gallbladder preservation surgery through questionnaires, and provide new evidence for the current controversy over gallbladder preservation surgery.
