Lumbopelvic Stability in Pregnant Women: Gestational Diabetes Impact

0 criteria met from your profileSee at a glance how your profile meets each eligibility criteria.
Study Aim

This observational study aims to investigate the impact of gestational diabetes on lumbopelvic stability in pregnant women, by evaluating pain intensity using a Visual Analog Scale, assessing functional stability of the pelvis through an Active Straight Leg Raise test, and examining postural control and lower-extremity/lumbopelvic control with the Y-Balance Test.

Actual date on which the first participant was enrolled.

This comparative cross-sectional study will be conducted over ten months at Fatima Memorial Hospital, Gulab Devi Hospital, and Ganga Ram Hospital. A total of 170 primigravida women in their second trimester (aged 20-40 years, singleton pregnancies, BMI 18.5-29.9 kg/m²) will be enrolled through non-probability convenient sampling and divided into two equal groups of 85 women each, with and without GDM. Women with high-risk pregnancies or spinal/pelvic comorbidities will be excluded. Lumbopelvic stability, dynamic balance, and pain intensity will be assessed by using the Active Straight Leg Raise (ASLR) test, Y-Balance Test (YBT), and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), respectively, and data will be analyzed by using SPSS version 27.0.

Protocol

This section provides details of the study plan, including how the study is designed and what the study is measuring.
Design Details

170 patients to be enrolled

Total number of participants that the clinical trial aims to recruit.

Case-Control

These studies compare people who have a disease (cases) with those who don't (controls). The goal is to look back at previous exposures or risk factors to identify what might have contributed to the disease.

Eligibility

Researchers look for people who fit a certain description, called eligibility criteria: person's general health condition or prior treatments.

Criteria

Female

Biological sex of participants that are eligible to enroll.

From 20 to 40 Years

Range of ages for which participants are eligible to join.

Healthy volunteers allowed

If individuals who are healthy and do not have the condition being studied can participate.
