Mobile Phone Reminders for Oral Hygiene in Orthodontic Patients
Two mobile applications: Brushout and Brush teeth reminder applications
Prevention Study
Summary
Study start date: February 14, 2023
Actual date on which the first participant was enrolled. This study is designed to explore how effective mobile phone reminders are in helping people with fixed braces maintain good oral hygiene. It targets individuals who are wearing braces, which require special care to avoid dental problems like cavities or gum disease. By improving oral hygiene practices, the study aims to reduce common issues associated with braces, providing a potentially simple and effective way to enhance dental care. Participants in the study are divided into two groups. The control group receives standard verbal instructions about oral hygiene, such as brushing with soft bristles for two minutes, daily flossing, using a fluoride mouth rinse, and avoiding certain foods. The intervention group gets the same instructions plus the addition of mobile apps that send reminders to practice good oral hygiene twice a day. Researchers then track the participants' hygiene practices and evaluate their effectiveness after four weeks, comparing the two groups to see if the mobile reminders make a significant difference.
