Summary
Study start date: March 27, 2017
Actual date on which the first participant was enrolled. This study aims to understand how different moisturizers affect dry skin. The moisturizers being tested are white petrolatum, coconut oil, jojoba oil, and almond oil. The study involves individuals with dry skin who attend Banner-University Medical Center/University of Arizona dermatology clinics and University of California, Davis dermatology clinics. By comparing the effects of these moisturizers, the study hopes to improve care for people dealing with dry skin conditions. Participants in this study will apply the four moisturizers to different areas on their forearms. The study consists of three sessions: the first at the start, and then approximately one and two weeks later. At each visit, a trained observer will assess the severity of dry skin using a validated Dry Skin Score. They will also measure skin barrier properties, such as water loss and hydration, and take digital photos of the areas for further analysis. This will help determine the effectiveness of each moisturizer in improving skin appearance and hydration.
