Study start date: March 4, 2013
Actual date on which the first participant was enrolled.This study focuses on cochlear implant patients who use the Digisonic SP device. It aims to understand why some patients have better speech-understanding and subjective perception quality than others. One possible factor could be the electrical field distribution, or how the electrodes interact within the implant. The study's main goal is to measure how these electrode interactions might affect the patient's speech-understanding at various levels of electrical stimulation. During the study, participants' vocal performance will be assessed. This will be done by measuring the percentage of voice recognition in both silent and noisy environments. To understand the electrode interactions, the study will also measure the refractory period of the hearing system circuits. This will be done using a method called PEAEP after stimulating specific electrodes within the cochlea (electrodes 11, 12, and 13).
