This study explores how a cholesterol-lowering medication, Pravastatin, affects blood vessel function after a high-fat meal. Research shows that such medicines not only lower cholesterol but also improve blood vessel function. However, consuming a fatty meal can temporarily impair blood vessel function, a condition known as endothelial dysfunction. The study aims to enroll 32 healthy subjects aged 18-40, with no history of diabetes, smoking, high blood pressure, or heart disease. The goal is to understand if Pravastatin can improve blood vessel function after a high-fat meal, potentially leading to improved care for conditions like heart attacks or strokes. During the study, participants receive either Pravastatin or an inactive substance for four days, before switching to the other group. Blood vessel function is monitored using a technique called flow mediated vasoactivity, which involves ultrasound measurement of the forearm artery's response to temporary blockage. This measurement is taken before and after consuming a high-fat meal. The study also measures endothelin-l, a substance involved in blood vessel function, and assesses changes in lipid profiles. The hope is to show that Pravastatin prevents blood vessel dysfunction after a high-fat meal.

Protocol

This section provides details of the study plan, including how the study is designed and what the study is measuring.

Treatment Study

These studies test new ways to treat a disease, condition, or health issue. The goal is to see if a new drug, therapy, or approach works better or has fewer side effects than existing options.

Eligibility

Researchers look for people who fit a certain description, called eligibility criteria: person's general health condition or prior treatments.
